U.S. C-130 Cargo Planes Deliver 38,000 Meals to Gaza Strip
Amidst the chaotic aftermath of more than 100 Palestinians being killed during a clash with Israeli troops, the U.S. military conducted a humanitarian aid airdrop in Gaza on Saturday. Three C-130 cargo planes dropped 66 bundles of food, equating to about 38,000 meals, into the territory. This airdrop is the first of many planned after President Joe Biden’s announcement.
Efforts to Provide Aid Amid Gaza Crisis
The U.S. Central Command, in coordination with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, initiated the airdrop as part of a sustained effort to deliver aid into Gaza. The next drop is scheduled for Wednesday, with plans for more missions in the future. The U.S. military is working on expanding aid delivery through various channels to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza.
Concerns Over Civilian Casualties and Aid Distribution
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has led to concerns over civilian casualties and the distribution of aid. The United Nations reports that a quarter of Gaza’s population is facing starvation. While airdrops are seen as a last resort, they provide emergency assistance to those in need.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to meet with Israeli officials to discuss the ongoing conflict and plans for the future. The international community continues to engage with all parties involved to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
