Rucker pays tribute to Keith
The lead singer of the band Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker, took to the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, to honor country legend Toby Keith. Rucker performed one of Keith’s hit songs, “God Love Her,” to pay homage to the late musician.
Arrest and charges
Rucker’s tribute comes shortly after he was arrested in Tennessee. He turned himself in and was taken into custody last Thursday. The charges against Rucker include two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of a violation of the state’s vehicle registration law.
Grand Ole Opry’s tribute
In addition to Rucker’s performance, the Grand Ole Opry honored Toby Keith in their famous venue. They held a moment of silence at the start of their show as a tribute to the country legend.
Icon Award and final performance
Toby Keith’s final performance at the Grand Ole Opry was last September when he was honored with the Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards. Keith expressed his gratitude for the recognition and the 30 years of his music career.
Faith and battling cancer
In one of his last interviews before his death, Toby Keith opened up about his battle with stomach cancer. He shared that he leaned on his faith to help him through the difficult times. Keith emphasized the importance of faith in his journey and how it provided him with strength and comfort.
A successful career
Toby Keith was recognized throughout his career for his vocals, songwriting, and live performances. He won numerous awards, including male vocalist of the year and entertainer of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Keith was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015. His final album, “Peso in My Pocket,” was released in 2021.
Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia, three children, and four grandchildren.
