Video Shows Brazen Robbery and Quick Getaway
In a shocking incident caught on camera, a thief in California carried out a bold, daylight robbery at an Apple Store before casually walking past a police vehicle and escaping in a getaway car. The surveillance footage reveals a masked individual dressed in all black, swiftly moving from table to table, snatching expensive phones and stuffing them into his pockets. In just under a minute, the thief managed to steal dozens of phones, each worth hundreds of dollars.
As witnesses looked on, one person recorded the scene as the thief calmly exited the store, brushing against a police cruiser before nonchalantly getting into a black Hyundai. The incident occurred at the Apple Store in Emeryville, situated in the East Bay region, less than five miles away from Oakland, according to KRON.
The Emeryville Police Department reported that no injuries were sustained during the theft, which took place at 10:27 a.m. on Monday. Fox News Digital reached out to the police department for further details, but no response has been received as of now.
“Ghost Car” Used for Deterrence
EPD clarified that the police vehicle caught on the video is a “ghost car,” strategically placed to deter criminal activity. Contrary to initial assumptions, the vehicle did not contain any police officers at the time of the incident.
“The police vehicle out front of the store is the department’s ‘ghost car,’ which is parked at various locations to be a police presence, to try and prevent criminal activity. No EPD Officer was present when this crime occurred,” explained EPD.
The video has gained significant attention, amassing over 10 million views on platforms like TikTok and X as of Thursday morning.
Apple Store Closed and Reopened
According to the E’Ville Eye, last year the Apple Store featured in the video remained closed for several months but later reopened in January.
Authorities are now investigating the incident and working towards apprehending the thief responsible for this audacious daylight robbery.
