Christians Celebrate Annual Rituals in Jerusalem
Amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, thousands of Christians in Jerusalem have embarked on their annual Easter rituals despite an increasingly hostile environment. On Good Friday, Christian pilgrims filled the city’s ancient alleyways, walking the Via Dolorosa, or “The Way of Suffering,” where Jesus carried the cross. While many stayed away, those in attendance expressed courage and determination.
Kurt Blackwelder, a minister from North Carolina, boldly traveled to Jerusalem amidst the violence, stating that he felt no fear. The city, a contested and holy place for Jews, Muslims, and Christians, has seen a rise in assaults on Palestinian Christians by ultra-Orthodox Jews, causing concern within the community.
Challenges Faced by Palestinian Christians in Gaza
In Gaza, Palestinian Christians are facing immense challenges, seeking shelter inside churches for protection. Despite the hardships, they celebrated Palm Sunday at the Holy Family Church, emphasizing unity and faith.
Blackwelder highlighted the importance of unity between different religious groups, expressing his love and hopes for a shared spirit and belief among all. The plea for peace and understanding resonates as Christians navigate Easter amidst conflict and uncertainty.
