Ted Danson Doubts the Likelihood of a Revival
During the MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, “Cheers” star Ted Danson expressed skepticism about the possibility of a revival. He stated, “I don’t think that’ll happen… I think everybody’s happily going off doing other stuff. And, I think it’d be a little sad, to be honest.”
Cast Reunion Raises Hopes, but Danson Shoots Them Down
While attending an event that reunited former “Cheers” stars, Danson shared his views on potentially working with his castmates again. He mentioned seeing them recently, implying that a reunion might be on the horizon. However, Danson quickly dismissed that idea, stating that the cast was not planning to be on set together again. He believed that a reunion of “older folks” with differing opinions would not go well.
Absent Members and Rumored Feuds
Danson was joined onstage by Rhea Perlman, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt for the reunion. Notably absent were Woody Harrelson and Shelley Long, who had left the show after its fifth season. Rumors of a feud between Danson and Long have circulated in Hollywood.
Logistical Challenges and a Warm Reunion
Regarding Harrelson’s absence, it was explained that he couldn’t make it because he was performing in a play in London. Despite the missing cast members, the reunion was described as “lovely.” The cast appeared in a recreation of the “Cheers” set during the Emmy Awards telecast, evoking nostalgia and fond memories.
Tribute to Late “Cheers” Actress and Beloved Show
The awards show also paid tribute to the late Kirstie Alley, who passed away from cancer in December 2022. Alley was honored during the In Memorium segment, along with other notable figures. “Cheers” aired for 11 seasons from 1982 to 1993, amassing 275 episodes and an impressive 28 Emmy Awards.
