Pop Star Acknowledges Offense and Expresses Regret
Last night, Britney Spears took to Instagram to issue an apology for some of the content in her recently released book. The singer expressed her deep regrets for any offense caused to the people she genuinely cares about.
In her apology, Spears did not mention Justin Timberlake by name but coincidentally posted a video of the musician performing on Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show” last week. Alongside the video, she wrote, “I also wanted to say I am in love with ‘Selfish’. It is soo good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard???”
Timberlake’s New Album Announcement and Resurgence of Spears’ Song
Last week, Justin Timberlake announced that he will be releasing a new album in March titled “Everything I Thought It Was.” The first single from the album, called “Selfish,” has already been released. Interestingly, Spears had a song with the same title on her “Femme Fatale” album back in 2011.
In a surprising turn of events, after Timberlake released his single, Spears’ 13-year-old track started gaining popularity on the iTunes music chart. Fans began streaming her song in large numbers, contributing to its rise in ranking.
It remains uncertain if Spears’ recent Instagram post was a reaction to the sudden resurgence of her old song. However, it is worth noting that she has previously defended Timberlake when her fans attacked him.
Controversial Excerpts and Abortion Claims
Prior to the release of her book, “The Woman in Me,” excerpts were made public, revealing details of Spears’ past relationship with Timberlake. In her book, she claimed that he had convinced her to have an abortion after she became pregnant.
Spears wrote, “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.” She further explained Timberlake’s reluctance, stating that he believed they were too young to have a baby.
The singer admitted that going along with Timberlake’s wishes was one of the most agonizing experiences of her life. However, she did not explicitly name anyone in her recent Instagram post where she addressed the controversy surrounding her book.
Spears’ Response to Critics and Moving Forward
In the wake of the abortion claims becoming public, several of Spears’ supporters began attacking Timberlake. In response, she took to Instagram to clarify her stance and express her growth and forgiveness.
Spears posted, “My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means!!! That was me then…that is in the past!!! I don’t like the headlines I am reading…that’s exactly why I wrote it 4 years ago!!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago…I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here!!!”
She continued, “This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written…although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future!!! Hopefully, I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood!!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly!!! I have moved on since then!!!”
