Trigger’s Impact on Guide Dog Program
A heartwarming chapter comes to a close as Trigger, the 9-year-old golden retriever affectionately dubbed the “Dogfather,” retires from his role in the breeding program at Guide Dogs in the U.K. Trigger, a proud father of over 300 puppies, leaves behind a legacy of independence and confidence for visually impaired individuals across Britain.
Trigger’s Remarkable Contribution
Trigger’s remarkable journey as a guide dog has touched the lives of many in cities like London, Glasgow, Cardiff, France, and the Netherlands. With 323 offspring to his name, Trigger’s last litter of five daughters and one son, affectionately known as the “Triglets,” marks the end of an era.
Legacy and Retirement
Janine Dixon, the head of breeding operations at Guide Dogs, praised Trigger’s gentle nature and excellent health as invaluable assets to the program. As Trigger steps into retirement, nine of his daughters and son Pierre are set to carry on his legacy and contribute to the new generation of guide dogs.
Forever Home
Trigger will spend his well-deserved retirement in Banbury, England, with his dedicated caretaker Sarah Byrne, who will officially adopt him after seven years of nurturing. The bond between Trigger and the Guide Dogs community remains strong as they bid farewell to a true hero.
