As per an announcement made by BigHit Music, the label of K-pop group BTS, four of its members are gearing up to commence their mandatory military service in South Korea. Jimin, 28, and Jung Kook, 26, are scheduled to enlist together, while V, 27, and RM, 29, will follow separate procedures for their enlistments. The specific dates of their enlistments were not provided in the statement.
The label’s message on Weverse urged fans to extend their unwavering support and love to RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook during their time in the military. It also expressed BigHit’s commitment to continue supporting its artists throughout this period. Additionally, the label discouraged fans from attending the new recruit training camp ceremony, emphasizing that it is intended solely for friends and family.
BTS had previously announced in October 2022 that all members would fulfill their mandatory military service obligations. South Korean law mandates that all physically capable men between the ages of 18 and 28 complete 18 to 21 months of military service. While certain exemptions exist for individuals who contribute to the country’s prestige, including classical musicians and athletes, BTS members opted to fulfill their obligations.
Three of the BTS members—Jin, j-hope, and Suga—have already embarked on their military service journey. Jin, the oldest member at 31, commenced his service in December 2022, while j-hope, 29, and Suga, 30, enlisted earlier in the year.
Despite legislative efforts to potentially exempt BTS from military service, the group chose to fulfill their responsibilities. In their hiatus announcement in June 2022, BigHit Music stated that BTS were “honored to serve” their country, showcasing their commitment to this civic duty.
