Drone Attack Destroys Russian Patrol Ship
Ukraine’s military intelligence service revealed that a special operations unit successfully sank another Russian warship, the patrol ship Sergey Kotov, near the Kerch Strait. The operation carried out by “Group 13” using Ukrainian-made Magura V5 maritime drones resulted in an estimated loss of $65 million for Russia’s navy.
Video Evidence of the Attack
A video released on social media by Ukraine’s military intelligence agency showcased the drone attack on the Russian vessel, showing smoke rising from the critically damaged ship. The fate of the crew onboard was still being determined, with reports of casualties among Russian sailors.
Escalating Tensions in Crimea
The drone strike followed explosions in Kerch, Crimea, and the closure of the Crimean Bridge for over eight hours. The Sergey Kotov had previously undergone repairs after a drone strike in 2023. Ukrainian President’s Chief of Staff emphasized that the Russian Black Sea Fleet symbolizes occupation and has no place in Ukrainian Crimea.
Continued Resistance Amidst Russian Advancements
While Ukrainian forces celebrate victories at sea, Russian troops continue advancing in eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian leaders urge Western support, emphasizing the urgent need for ammunition and weaponry to fend off Russian aggression.
