As part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious 2030 Vision masterplan, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City has thrown its weight behind the bid to host World Expo 2030, allocating a substantial budget of €7.2 billion. World Expos are renowned global events designed to tackle humanity’s challenges and provide a vibrant platform for catalyzing change.
Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, Minister of State and Acting CEO at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, is confident that Riyadh will put on an “unprecedented show” for the world. “We expect full participation,” he stated, emphasizing that people from all walks of life will come together to showcase their values, traditions, and contributions.
Riyadh’s remarkable transformation encompasses significant developments in infrastructure, education, and the arts. With a population exceeding 7.5 million, including over 40% expatriates, the city is undergoing remarkable changes. From business to the arts and education, Riyadh is witnessing a profound evolution.
For instance, Downe House, Riyadh’s inaugural British International School for Girls, is dedicated to motivating and inspiring its students. Principal Adele O’Doherty stressed the importance of recognizing and preserving local culture amid the school’s international ethos.
Riyadh’s cultural and artistic landscape is flourishing. Riyadh Season, one of the world’s largest winter entertainment events, encompasses art, music, theater, food, and sports. The MDLBeast Soundstorm, the Middle East’s largest music festival, attracts over 200 international and national artists.
In a cultural coup, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed theater production, “The Phantom of the Opera,” has recently graced Riyadh’s stages, delighting theater enthusiasts. Jasper Hope, Advisor at The Royal Commission for Riyadh City, who played a pivotal role in this achievement, believes that Riyadh’s Expo 2030 bid could usher in transformative developments akin to those witnessed in previous Expo host cities.
