Chaos and Fear in Northern Nigeria
More than 100 students, aged 8 to 15, were abducted from an elementary school in Kugira, Kaduna state. Witnesses reported chaos as unknown assailants on motorcycles carried out the kidnapping, leaving one student injured from a gunshot. The incident follows a recent mass-kidnapping in Borno state, where numerous children were seized by militants.
Unrest Continues to Grip the Region
Reports suggest that the attackers in Borno state could be linked to Boko Haram or the ISIS affiliate ISWAP. Conflicting witness accounts and the absence of official government statements have intensified concerns over the safety of civilians in Nigeria’s turbulent north.
Largest Abduction Since Chibok
If the initial reports are accurate, the recent attacks would mark the largest mass-kidnapping in Nigeria since the infamous 2014 Chibok incident, where 276 girls were taken by Boko Haram militants. Authorities are in the process of confirming the exact number of those kidnapped in the recent raids.
