Living a Double Life: Hollywood Star and Boring Parent
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Mark Wahlberg and his co-star Michelle Monaghan opened up about their lives as Hollywood stars and parents. When asked if their children think they are “cool” because of their celebrity status, Wahlberg responded, “I think we’re cool when it’s convenient, getting something done for them and meeting somebody they want to meet.” However, he was quick to point out that at home, they are just “boring parents again.”
Relatable Parenting Struggles
Wahlberg acknowledged that this is a common experience for parents, explaining, “I think all parents go through the same thing. Their kids think they’re out of touch, they don’t know what’s going on.” He emphasized that parents have valuable life experiences and knowledge that they try to pass on to their children, hoping to make their lives easier and help them avoid mistakes.
The Embarrassing Side of Fame
Wahlberg’s children even tease him about his past as a member of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, a music group that gained fame in the early 90s. He admitted that his kids find his singing and dancing days cringe-worthy. “For them, it’s cringe,” Wahlberg said. “They definitely don’t want to hear that.”
When Hollywood Life Mirrors Reality
Interestingly, Wahlberg shared that his children could relate to a scene in their new film, “The Family Plan.” The scene involves Wahlberg and Monaghan, playing a married couple, embarrassingly singing along to Vanilla Ice in front of their kids. “They did get a big laugh out of that particular scene. They like to laugh at me,” he said.
A New Role: Family Man and Assassin
In “The Family Plan,” Wahlberg portrays Dan Morgan, an elite government assassin who tries to leave his dangerous past behind to become a suburban family man and car salesman. However, his former life catches up with him, and he finds himself and his family in grave danger. Determined to protect his loved ones, Dan takes them on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas, while battling his enemies in secret.
Meeting the Dates: A Chill Dad
At the premiere of “The Family Plan,” Wahlberg revealed that he remains calm when his daughters bring dates home to meet him. “I think after the first go-round with my oldest, I realized it is what it is,” he said. “It’s inevitable.”
College Fun: Not Just for the Kids
On a recent visit to his daughter Ella’s university, Wahlberg found himself amidst the college party scene. He clarified that he was not crashing a frat house, but was actually invited. Wahlberg admitted to having a blast, even though the house was in a questionable state and had an interesting smell. He jokingly mentioned that he got a small taste of what he missed by not attending college.
Despite his children not thinking he’s cool and the challenges of balancing fame and family life, Mark Wahlberg seems to embrace it all with a sense of humor and humility.
