Online Encounter Leads to Arrest
SCOTTVILLE, Mich. — A 21-year-old man from Tennessee was caught attempting to enroll at a high school in Michigan after meeting a minor online, authorities reported. The man’s ruse was uncovered by a vigilant staff member at Mason County Central, who alerted a sheriff’s deputy.
The sheriff’s office disclosed that during the interview on Tuesday, it was revealed that the man, hailing from Fort Campbell, Tennessee, was not a teenager as he had claimed. He now faces charges for using a computer to commit a crime, among others.
Sheriff Kim Cole emphasized the importance of parental guidance in educating children about the perils of online interactions and sharing personal information on the internet or social media platforms.
The incident unfolded at a high school located in Scottville, a town in northern Michigan, approximately 100 miles north of Grand Rapids.
