Living with Strangers and Chasing Dreams
Singer Kelly Clarkson and actor Kevin Bacon recently shared stories on Clarkson’s show, highlighting the unpredictable paths they took to achieve success in their respective industries.
From Texas to L.A. with a Random Stranger
Clarkson revealed that she took a leap of faith by moving to Los Angeles with a complete stranger. She explained to Bacon that she had decided to become roommates with someone she had never met before.
“I actually moved out to L.A. with some random person I did not know,” Clarkson said.
Intrigued, Bacon asked for more details. Clarkson continued, saying, “Yeah, she just needed a roommate. I was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and I moved from Texas to L.A. with a random stranger.”
A Twist of Fate
Unfortunately, their living arrangement was short-lived as their apartment unexpectedly burned down.
“It burned down, so yeah,” Clarkson said. “Then, I slept in my car for a few days and then tried out for a show called ‘American Idol’ so it all worked out.”
From Car to Superstardom
Clarkson’s stint on “American Idol” turned out to be a life-changing opportunity. She won the inaugural season of the show in 2002, launching her career as a successful singer.
“You’ve really got to want your dream,” Clarkson explained. “The universe makes you really want it.”
A Flophouse in New York City
Bacon, in response to Clarkson’s story, shared his own experience of living with a stranger before finding fame in the acting world.
In 1976, Bacon’s budget for an apartment was $150 a month.
Despite finding a two-bedroom apartment that was out of his price range, he didn’t give up. Bacon approached a stranger he met while visiting the building and asked if he could move in with him. Surprisingly, the man agreed, and they ended up living together for four years.
“In fact, I just had lunch with him the other day,” Kevin said.
Embracing the Journey
Both Clarkson and Bacon acknowledged that many individuals in the entertainment industry have unique and sometimes challenging stories before achieving success.
“Before making it big, you really have to be willing to start from scratch,” Clarkson emphasized.
“Believing in your dreams and taking unconventional steps can lead to incredible opportunities,” Bacon added.
Clarkson and Bacon’s stories serve as a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected paths can lead to extraordinary achievements.
