Attack on Iranian News Channel Reporter
London police revealed on Tuesday that three suspects linked to a stabbing incident involving Pouria Zeraati, a journalist with Iran International, had fled the UK. Zeraati was injured in a leg during the attack outside his London residence on Friday. Despite being discharged from the hospital and under police protection, Zeraati expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support on social media.
Iran International, known as an opposition channel, gained prominence for covering anti-government protests in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022. The channel, banned in Iran but accessible via satellite, faced threats prompting increased security measures at its London studio.
The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, saw two men assaulting Zeraati before fleeing in a vehicle driven by a third accomplice. The car was later recovered for examination, and the suspects departed from Heathrow Airport. International cooperation is ongoing as authorities investigate the motives behind the attack. Iran’s charge d’affaires in London disavowed any government involvement in the assault.
