Tragic Casualties in Pakistan’s Northwest
Eight people, mostly children, lost their lives as heavy rains battered various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. Anwar Shahzad, a spokesperson for the local disaster management authority, revealed that collapsing rooms proved fatal for the victims within. Among the deceased were three young siblings aged 3 to 7 years old, all from the same family. The devastating casualties took place within the past 24 hours, marking a sorrowful turn of events triggered by the delayed arrival of winter rains in Pakistan.
Continued Devastation in the Region
Earlier this month, approximately 30 individuals lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Pakistan’s northwest. Meanwhile, across the border in Afghanistan, heavy rainfall wreaked havoc on over 1,500 acres of agricultural land. The destructive downpours also inflicted severe damage on hundreds of homes and vital infrastructure, including bridges and roads, across seven provinces. Notably, the provinces most impacted by the deluge are northern Faryab, eastern Nangarhar, and central Daikundi. This recent calamity represents the third instance of flooding in the northern region in less than a month, resulting in the loss of seven lives and affecting 384 families.
