Maintaining Fitness for Performance and Injury Prevention
Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman, has opened up about his body-conscious approach to staying fit for the highly anticipated film, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” While some may assume it’s for vanity, Momoa clarified that his focus is primarily on preventing injuries.
When asked about his fitness regimen, Momoa explained, “I don’t really do it for vanity. It’s more so I don’t get hurt. I mean, you need to be prepared when you’re putting on a suit that weighs 40 pounds. You’ve got to be able to move. That kind of action puts a lot of weight on your knees. So we just do it so you don’t get hurt.”
Sharing the Weight-Loss Journey
Momoa also revealed that he did not have to go through the process of cutting weight for the film. Instead, that task was designated to his co-stars, Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The 6’4″ star expressed his gratitude, saying, “Patrick’s the one that’s cut up on this one… They gave me a break. I didn’t have to get like they had to get.”
According to Momoa, the weight loss process can often lead to a grumpy attitude. “They had to do that stuff where they got to cut weight and get all grumpy,” he commented. His approach allowed him to focus on maintaining his physique without undergoing extreme measures.
Prioritizing Recovery and Health
Momoa recently underwent surgery for a hernia injury he sustained on the set of the film’s sequel. In an interview with Men’s Health, he mentioned that the surgery restricted his ability to perform situps, which ultimately contributed to his more relaxed body appearance.
It is worth noting that for the first “Aquaman” film, Momoa had a much more rigorous diet and fitness routine. However, he has adjusted his approach to prioritize recovery and overall health.
