Youth Beats Experience: Record-Breaking Achievement
An 8-year-old chess prodigy, Aswath Kaushik, has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest player to defeat a chess grandmaster. Kaushik, hailing from India but residing in Singapore, secured a victory against 37-year-old Jacek Stopa of Poland during a chess tournament in Switzerland.
New Record Holder Emerges
Prior to Kaushik’s remarkable feat, Leonid Ivanovic of Serbia, aged 8 years and 11 months, had claimed the title of the youngest player to beat a grandmaster in a classic tournament game, dethroning the previous record-holder Awonder Liang. However, Kaushik, at just four months younger than Ivanovic, swiftly took over the record.
Aspirations of a Champion
Reflecting on his groundbreaking win, Kaushik expressed his excitement and pride, highlighting his ability to stage a comeback during the intense match. The young chess talent, under the guidance of his father Sriram Kaushik, has dedicated himself to the game since learning its rules at the age of four.
Unwavering Dedication
Kaushik’s father revealed that despite neither parent being chess players, the young prodigy’s passion and dedication have driven him to spend up to seven hours daily honing his skills. With aspirations to become a world champion and achieve a chess player rating of 2000, Kaushik remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence.
