Plaintiff Claims Assault Occurred in Spring 1988
In shocking revelations, documents obtained by Fox News Digital reveal that a survivor has come forward to file a lawsuit against Jermaine Jackson, accusing him of sexual abuse, sexual battery, sexual assault, harassment, and rape. The assault allegedly took place in or around the Spring of 1988.
Accusations Against Motown Records Founder
The survivor, identified as Rita Barrett, claims to have reported the assault to Motown Records founder, who is also a family friend. In the lawsuit, Barrett alleges that the founder, Mr. Gordy, “withheld and concealed the acts, further perpetuating the cover-up” in order to protect Jackson’s reputation.
Familial Connections and Fear for Life
Barrett states that she knew Jackson through personal and familial connections, including her husband’s relationship with Gordy. According to the lawsuit, Jackson forced himself into Barrett’s home and sexually assaulted her with force and violence. Barrett feared for her life during the assault and prayed for help.
Allegations of Cover-Up and Profits
One day after the assault, Barrett reported the incident to Mr. Gordy, who she believed was in a unique position to both report Jackson’s actions and provide support during her time of trauma. However, Gordy allegedly withheld and concealed the acts, allowing Jackson, Gordy, and others in the business relationship to continue profiting from Jackson’s work and reputation.
Legal Action and Entities Named in Lawsuit
The lawsuit also includes Jermaine L. Jackson Music Productions, Inc. and his Work Records, Inc. as defendants. Barrett filed the lawsuit under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act, which allows survivors of sexual assault to seek legal action even after the statute of limitations has expired. The statute of limitations for this case expires on December 31, 2023.
Representatives for Jackson, Gordy, and Barrett have not yet responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on the matter.
