Survivor Week 7 Recap
April 3, 2009

It’s been so long since we took the time,
No one’s to blame, I know time flies so quickly.
But when I see you, darling,
It’s like we both are falling in love again,
It’ll be just like starting over,
Starting over.
Jalapao returns to camp fresh (not so fresh to us) from voting off Spencer. JT says Spencer had to go because of how badly he did in the challenge?one of those quotes that you wonder why they put that in unless it foreshadows future events?
Sydney launches into ?I?m next if we lose? talk. Joe assures her that he would make sure she makes the merge?admitting in tree confessional that he has a ?little thing? for her. I?m assuming he means a crush although one never knows. He guarantees her that she will make the merge?always a bad sign.
Two weeks of waiting?
Zero Coach sightings, zero Coach pep talks, Zero Coach metaphors
Survivor fans around the world dance wildly
As the drums begin to play?
Beans, beans the musical fruit, on Timbira, Coach likes his beans really soft, while everyone else is hungry and there is a storm rolling in. While cooking the beans Coach adds river water to them which means 6 more minutes of boiling. In rolls the storm and Coach goes over and joins his tribe under the shelter leaving the beans to burn. Sierra says she?s frustrated as he would have been if one of them had burnt a pot of beans. Coach launches into a Jim Carrey ?the truth shall set you free? imitation without all that needless humor. In tree confessional he says it?s all about the beans. It was a bad combination. I wanted them cooked a little longer, it started raining. It was just a bad combination. No need to blame anybody. But around his tribe he takes full responsibility and says forgive me especially you Sierra since you seem to have the most angst about it.
Brendan says it?s a Coach thing and he accepts it because it makes Coach a predictable player and in this game that is a good thing.
Meanwhile on Jalapao Taj tells Stephen that she is going to tell JT about the HII. Stephen questions this and they decide to let it ride.
At reward challenge they are given 5 minutes to construct a barrier in the other tribe?s frame. Then they return to their own frame and have to throw ceramic pigs through the frame to be caught on the other side. Tribe with the most pigs through wins reward. Wanna know what they are playing for? Winning tribe gets an afternoon BBQ beside a waterfall.
At the beginning they break a lot of pigs until they get into rhythm. Sydney winces in pain every time she catches a pig. Tyson gets a bit psyched out by Jeff announcing the scores and starts hitting barrier with the pigs. Jalapao comes back briefly but in the end it?s Timbira that wins reward.
After a meeting of the mind, they opt to send Joe to Exile. Joe picks Erinn because they need someone to flip at merge and his ?charm? game will work because she?s an attractive woman. Apparently Joe has a ?little something? for her too. He?s in for a shock when he finds out she?s a man hater.
At reward, they shovel in hamburgers as fast as they can. When they finally take a breath they notice a stunning waterfall. They jump and dive off the platform into crystal blue water. It?s a lovely scene, so of course Coach has to ruin it all by talking. He says part of him feels guilty that Erinn is not there but in his opinion she is lucky to still be in the game. And karma takes over when Coach is seen jumping into the water and onto a raft and instantly flipping over.
On exile dune, Erinn gets the clue and goes off to read it. She now has to decide if she should share info?ummmm HELLO ERINN! You said you haven?t connected with any of your own tribe?now is your chance! She finally decides to tell Joe where the idol is hidden.
Meanwhile back on Jalapao, Taj and Stephen realize that Joe will know where HII was hidden so Taj makes a fake idol. HOWEVER, she hides the real HII in a fairly open site where JT finds it. JT tells Stephen that he found Taj?s hidden idol and Stephen feigns shock. After a bit Taj shows it to JT. She says she doesn?t want either boy to go prematurely (and really ladies, isn?t that we all want?) She tells JT if he needs it, she will give it to him. But neither Stephen nor Taj mention the cross tribal ultra top secret 4 way wink wink alliance.
I like Taj more and more. She?s tough and she?s playing really smart. Her only mistake is telling everyone who her hubby is?.but I think at the time it awestruck the boys enough to keep her around?so maybe it wasn?t a mistake after all.
At IC they are to use a sling shot to break tiles which will release sand and drop a bag of puzzle pieces and expose next tile. More sand released, the more of the next tile that is exposed. First tribe to get all three bags of pieces and solve puzzle wins immunity. Tyson and JT take over sling shot duties and instead of switching off stone casters, they alpha-dog it. Joe offers to take over sling shot duties from JT. Tyson, having broken all his tiles says he will come over and do it if they want.
Erinn and Brendan make quick work of the puzzle while Joe and Stephen are trying their best. Here?s an issue I have with Stephen. He spends most of the challenges (not just this one) watching what the other tribe is doing. If he worried about his own team half as much he could be a beast at challenges. Timbira wins immunity.
At Jalapao Joe tells them Erinn got the clue and wouldn?t share info with him. He then says he needs a drink of water and heads off on his own while Taj and Stephen share an evil grin. Sure enough, Joe goes straight to tree mail and finds the fake idol.
JT and Stephen tell Joe of their plan to vote out Sydney. They state that Taj has inroads with the other tribe since she spent so much time on Exile with them. Joe says he wants to honor his word to Sydney to take her to the merge. Plus he has that ?little thing? for her.
Spencer and JT realize that possession is 9/10th of the law and they could vote off Taj and still keep the idol.
At tribal council, JT, Stephen and Joe obsess over the merge. Taj says she could talk other tribe into flipping since she?s spent so much time with them. JT says she could have formed another alliance.
Jeff point blank asked Sydney what she could offer. She said ?um, well, it?s like?.I haven?t spent any time on exile with the other tribe so I can bring loyalty to THESE PEOPLE.? THESE PEOPLE? Come on now.
Joe says going into merge with 4 we have to know who to trust and he is ready to put pencil to paper.
JT says I blew the challenge and I have to send somebody home. HELLO??? Then vote for yourself! That?s why you got rid of Spencer! While votes are tallied, Sydney leans her head on Joe?s shoulder. If he cared that much then why didn?t he give her the idol? He knew they were gunning for her.
In a 3-2 vote Sydney is voted off and Stephen pats Taj?s shoulder while Joe realizes he may have just sealed his fate to be the next one voted off.
So let?s crunch numbers. Next week shows a merge. The cross tribal ultra top secret 4 way wink wink alliance counts for 4 votes. They will be able to get JT to vote with them, making it 5. I am sure that either Erinn or Sierra or Joe will be willing to vote with them making it a majority?.and possibly get rid of Coach or Tyson! Dare a recapper dream?
It?s so nice to be back to new episodes isn?t it?
